Our second trip to this amazing location, 9 years apart! I knew I wanted something that included the domes, so was on the lookout during our 2 day visit here. Upon heading to Cathedral Gorge, and walking through the Domes, I was still a bit stumped, until we left the area and started heading back to the car. I noticed this path winding down towards the gap and thought it would be beautiful at a different time of day.

Such a special place, the sacred art site of Ubirr within Kakadu National Park. Overlooking the floodplains, filled with buffalo. We took a picnic up here and sat and watched the sunset with all the other tourists. I was up here early to nab a good spot, however my preferred framing ended up having about 10 people jump in front of me!
Luckily after sunset, everyone left, we were the only ones left on the rock with the ranger. The sunset kept going and going, long after it should have finished, letting me capture these beautiful sun rays. -

Captured at Wanggalooba Creek on Fraser Island, this crystal clear fresh water creek amazed me. A 20 minute walk from Central Station leads you along and down to Wangalooba creek, one of the most amazing spots we have ever had the pleasure of visiting.
The sand is white on the creek bed, and with just a few inches of water flowing over the top it looks dry, until you see the glistening water surface. I ducked down the creek banks and made my way down the creek, scoping out compositions on the way, before I found this.

This small unnamed creek in the Dorrigo National Park crosses the path as you walk down to the Crystal Shower Falls. I wasn't satisfied with the image from the pathway, so scrambled very carefully down to this spot. I captured a very very different image looking downstream, and turned around to leave when I spotted this composition up stream, back towards the path. The stream cuts down through the forest.

We were walking through the high altitude forest up in WIld Cattle Creek State Forest when the weather started closing in. Amanda raced back to get our truck and bring it to the road near where we would finish the walk, and I was walking with Aria, our daughter. We crossed a small creek and reached this spot on the Mobong River. I spent about 10 minutes capturing different compositions when I started to feel raindrops on my shoulders.
Cursing the weather, I packed up quickly and headed off through the rainforest to the road to meet up with Amanda, all of us totally soaked as she drove up to pick us up.

Wild Cattle Creek in the Dorrigo area of New South Wales. This is a small picnic area we came across as we drove through the area. I headed for a walk down the creek to see what I could find, and came across this magical spot where the water flows over this small rock ledge. This artwork was created in the Nundle State Forest, near Tamworth, NSW. I had only just said to Amanda that I wanted to go for a drive down one of the side tracks when some strangers came and asked us for help with getting their car out of a bit of trouble. The kind and adventurous people that we are, said of course. We were on our way back out of the forest and we came across this beautiful scene, I couldn't help but stop for the capture. I knew I wanted a vertical capture and once I climbed up to sit on the top of the truck I realised it wasn't in the right spot, so back down I climbed, directing Amanda to where the truck needed to be and back up I went - All in the name of a great capture!

Cows wander through their farm as the clouds above light up.
This extremely rare formation of clouds formed over Namingha, near Tamworth, NSW. We were in the middle of dinner at our caravan as we travel around Australia, when we spotted the cloud formation beginning to light up.

This composition in the Watagans National Park caught my eye as we were walking through the forest. I hadn't brought my Camera with me for the walk, not expecting to find anything of interest, however when I saw that composition I knew it would make a great vertical capture. I Raced down the track back to the truck, retrieved my camera and hurried back. I spent about 45 minutes capturing this amazing spot and ended up with two amazing images, a vertical composition, this one, and a landscape panorama image. The flow of the water down the stream calms me as it passes the vibrant green ferns on each side, as warm summer light filters through the trees above.

Sunset at Corindi Beach Point was magical this night. We were staying at the Reflections Caravan Park near Coffs Harbour, NSW where it is a short walk to the beach. Amanda convinced me to head out for sunset as the clouds were similar to the previous night where it unexpectedly lit up all around us while we were having dinner. I'm so glad she did as it was one of the most amazing sunsets we'd had in some time. I knew from swimming amongst the rockpools earlier that day that the water was a crystal clear blue so had already decided I wanted that in my artwork. Curtis Falls at Tamborine Mt in the Gold Coast Hinterland is a really special pocket of National Park Rainforest in the midst of roads and other tourism developments. A quick 15 minute walk from the Carpark leads you down to the falls themselves. Seriously calming, this place is full of wildlife and tranquility. I was told about this gorgeous spot by a mate who comes here for 4WD'ing occasionally. We were headed down to Adelaide River stormchasing, hoping to catch a stormfront as it hit the floodplains, however it was not to be. As we drove south the storms seemed to part away from us.
We moved to Plan B, this spot that I had been told the (Very rough) location of. We eventually found the road up just as the sun was starting to set. The road was extremely steep and we encountered a washout about 40m up. In the name of caution we decided to roll back down the hill, park the car and walk up to the top.
This turned out to be a bit of a mistake, the climb was 40 stories according to my wife's Fitbit, and at a very steep gradient.
We made it to the top just as the sun was truly starting to show some colour. I got out my panorama gear and camera, levelled everything and setup just in time to catch this amazing ray of light as it pierced the stormy clouds sideways from the setting sun.

Spectacle on the Hawkesbury River

After a great weekend photographing Autumn Colours in the Blue Mountains, Amanda and I were returning home, hoping to stop at a beach on the Central Coast for sunset on the way. (That was the plan at least!) We encountered heavy traffic transiting through North Western Sydney, and ended up stopping for an early dinner.
As we got onto the freeway, the sun was already on its last legs. I was resigned to not getting to shoot this particular sunset, which looked like it would be pretty amazing, lighting up several cloud banks and starting to go pink.
We were frantically trying to think of places close by that we could stop to shoot, when it hit me that we were coming up to the Brooklyn Bridge, on the Hawkesbury River. We turned off the freeway, headed onto the Old Pacific Highway and I made a frantic dash to the waters edge with the camera to setup the gear.
It was now that I discovered (of course) that I must have left my shutter remote actuator somewhere in Mt Wilson in the Mountains... Thankfully my camera has a time set mode that I frantically programmed to try and get the last of the colours being displayed.
I only just managed to pull it all together for this beautiful shot, featuring Spectacle Island as it sits on the Hawkesbury River, with the last of that amazing sunset lighting up the cloud bank behind, in this, one of the most easily and often seen (but least thought about) landscapes in the Hunter Region of NSW.

This image was created while on a spontaneous stop at Somersby Falls on the way home after spending the weekend in Sydney for Vivid. We had a bit of time before we had to be home and we hadn’t been to Somersby Falls in a number of years. We also knew with the recent rainfall the falls should have been flowing nicely. So, we decided to drop in.
I forgot to charge my batteries for my camera after being at Vivid the night before so I knew I didn’t have many shots left. I scouted the location back and forth looking for the composition I was imaging.
To get to this spot, I had to walk along the slippery rock edge and try not to get my shoes and socks soaked, climb up and perch myself on the edge of a boulder. I struggled to get my tripod to steady itself due to the legs needing to be at such different lengths and positions. The amount of water cascading was perfect for this long exposure and the shine on the tree trunk brings another element of life to the image. I love the varying colours, shapes and layers of the rock shelf which forms the waterfall.
We were the only ones here at this particular time and we felt a world away from any civilisation, which was such a contrast to the previous days in Sydney.

This image was captured in the very middle of the Darwin dry season. The purple haze is caused by the smoke from bushfires catching the last of the sunset glow, as the aqua blue water of Fannie Bay reflects the dark blue sky above.
If you look carefully, you can see the last of the sun hitting the Paspaley Building in the city.
